David Alfrey
David is a lawyer with expertise in environmental, social and governance matters, with a particular interest in human rights and access to effective remedy.
David has advised the Centre since 2017 as a lawyer with Clifford Chance, including on the Centre’s initial incorporation as a UK Charity, and its phased separation from its parent Charity IHRB. David has been responsible for supporting the preparation of the governance structure and documentation for the Centre including the drafting of the constitutional documents, the Code of Conduct and other policy documentation. David's experience includes working closely with financial institutions and regulators as well as with environmental and sports organisations.
Current work
David is a Member of the Global ESG Board and an Associate in the Litigation and Disputes Resolution practice at Clifford Chance, having also recently completed a secondment to the Centre as a Legal and Governance Advisor. David continues to provide legal advice to the Centre and its board of directors, including on matters relating to compliance, governance and regulatory risks. He is also supporting the Centre’s work on access to remedy.
Previous experience
David joined Clifford Chance in 2016 as a trainee solicitor, qualifying into the Assets and Projects Financing Team he acted for global financial institutions in the development of national infrastructure and related financial arrangements including major renewable energy projects in Africa and Asia. David has since joined the Litigation and Disputes Resolution practice at Clifford Chance. His experience includes advising the Centre, Invictus Games Foundation and the Lifescape Project on governance and environmental risks, working closely with regulators such as the Charity Commission and the FCA and advising major financial institutions.
