Thays has focused the 15 years of her career on gender equality and sustainable development. For the last eight years, she is dedicated to advancing gender equality in and through sports.

Current work

As Gender Advisor, Thays is responsible for developing and implementing our Gender Strategy in consultation with various stakeholders. She is also liaising with the candidate host cities of the FIFA 2026 World Cup, as we assist them to include Child Rights into their Human Rights Strategy.

Previous experience

Thays was the Global Sports Coordinator at UN Women, where she worked to advance gender equality in and through sports, in partnerships with governments, sports bodies, NGOs, and the private sector. Before this, since 2013, she took on different roles at UN Women for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls, including managing and advising the implementation of the joint program between UN Women and the International Olympic Committee, One Win Leads to Another, focused on the empowerment of girls and young women through sport. At the BBC Media Action, in London, she developed a gender mainstreaming strategy for the organisation to plan and deliver Communications for Development programs with a gender perspective. In the first seven years of her career, she worked as a journalist and content editor focused on creating and managing sustainable development projects for the private sector. Thays holds an MSc in Gender, Media, and Culture from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a B.A. in Communications from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil.
