2021: Year for the Elimination of Child Labour

All 193 United Nations Member States have renewed their commitment to the cause by declaring 2021 as the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour.

Centre takes 2021 Action Pledge

As part of the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour, we have taken the 2021 Action Pledge, committing to work towards ending all child labour in sport.  

We have pledged to:

  1. Document and raise awareness of the current situation, challenges, and progress
  2. Make available tools to develop the capacities of key stakeholders in the world of sport.

What does this mean for sport?

More action is needed to: 

  • Address risks of child labour in elite sport
  • Ensure sports academies respect child rights
  • Support child athletes in guaranteeing their rights in contracts
  • End illegal child labour practices linked to event hosts
  • Make all sport supply chains labour free.
