CSHR Scholarship For Asser Summer Programme ‘Sport And Human Rights’ 2023

The Centre for Sport and Human Rights is funding a scholarship for an outstanding master student, PhD candidate, or civil society representative from an underrepresented group, including those from the global South, to participate in the Asser Institute’s summer programme ‘Sport and Human Rights’.

The course is organised by the Asser Institute in collaboration with the Centre for Sport and Human Rights and FIFPRO and will run from  27 - 30 June 2023 in Hoofddorp/Amsterdam. After the great success of the first edition in 2022 the programme returns, this year zooming in on a number of challenges underlying the link between sport and human rights, such as the human rights impacts of day-to-day sports, the normative framework and applicability of the UNGPs in the sporting context, the rights of athletes, gender and sports, remedies for sport-related human rights harms, and more. 

Speakers from both academia and practice are included in the programme to ensure that participants can benefit from the right balance between theoretical knowledge and practical application and developments. The organisers are proud to welcome speakers and representatives from among others the International Olympic Committee and its Human Rights Advisory Board, FIFA, Caster Semenya`s legal team (Norton & Fullbright), Commonwealth Sport, and Athleten Deutschland, as well as from the Asser Institute, FIFPRO, and the Centre for Sport and Human Rights. This programme is interactive and cutting edge and will offer the chance to engage in meaningful discussions, group work, and more.
