The Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees joins the Centre for Sport & Human Rights

The Centre for Sport and Human Rights (CSHR) is proud to announce that the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees has joined CSHR’s multi-stakeholder network working to advance responsible sport as an Engaged Organisation.

The Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) comprises National Olympic Committees, Commonwealth Games Associations and governing bodies of National Sports Organisations and works to promote, develop and protect sport as well as the Olympic Movement in the Caribbean.

CANOC will collaborate with CSHR’s growing network of Engaged Organisations and members of its Advisory Council to support the development of guidance and best practices to strengthen understanding of human rights challenges arising in the world of sport, including engaging with affected groups to identify risks and understand the needs of their communities.

Engaged Organisations participate in CSHR’s activities globally, and contribute to the growth of the sport and human rights movement.

CANOC President Keith Joseph said: We fully support the Centre's mission to advance a world of responsible sport that fully respects and promotes human rights. We are ready to commit to supporting and demonstrating the practical application of the Sporting Chance Principles and we commit to the vision, mission, and work of the Centre by working collaboratively to address challenges.

CSHR CEO Mary Harvey said: We are proud to welcome the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees to the Centre as an Engaged Organisation. Their recent focus on women’s empowerment, eliminating racial discrimination, safeguarding and other areas of social sustainability, strongly aligns with the Centre’s activities and will be invaluable for us and all members of the Centre to work with them on promoting human rights.
