The 75 - Join the Human Rights Team!

A campaign to celebrate and raise awareness

The Centre for Sport and Human Rights is proud to be partnering with the United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR) with 'The 75' campaign.

'The 75' has showcased sports stars and their commitment to human rights in the countdown to the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - the foundation of the international human rights system - on 10 December 2023.

In the 75 days leading up to International Human Rights Day, the Centre, together with the UN Human Rights Office, published 75 short social media videos from athletes who have spoken out on social issues and human rights, or have demonstrated in other ways their commitment to human rights - through their foundations, NGOs, or support for UN causes.

The campaign was a collection of different ways to explain what human rights are and why they are important. The aim was to make the concept of human rights accessible, easy to understand and connected with everyone’s daily lives.

75 Years of Human Rights

The adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on 10 December 1948 marked the foundation of the international human rights system. For the first time, fundamental human rights were universally protected.

In 2023 we have commemorated its 75th anniversary, and with human rights and labour rights under threat in many parts of the world, the need to promote fundamental rights and celebrate unifying social forces has never been greater.

'The 75' campaign is part of Human Rights 75, United Nations one year-long initiative to commemorate the UDHR anniversary. Human Rights 75 seeks to educate on the universality of human rights, their enduring relevance for today and the future, promote attitude change, and empower and mobilise by offering concrete knowledge and tools to help people better fight for their rights.
